studies in indigo

orchid in indigo outline

i like to get close to the earth with my paints. this flower study was made with handmade indigo watercolor, with gold mica touches, from some indigo i got from a farmer in Pakistan. i turned this raw pigment into watercolor paint with a solution of gum arabic, organic honey, and cinnamon oil as a preservative.

This is an interesting study of a shape that is found in so many gardens and forests. The orchid is one of the most elegant and is graced with a long life.
